Lake Michigan

I created this bathymetry of Lake Michigan for a relative who could no longer walk to the lake.

As it happened, I spent many of the early months of COVID painting page after page blue with watercolors, and thinking about the ripples in the lake. These pages were the basis for this piece. While I explored many watercolor techniques, any but the simplest washes of a single hue overwhelmed the shoreline. I made two exceptions of course, for the land area (green with brown wax resist) and the deepest contour (which is black).
