Panels for this lamp are based on photographs of
trees in Jackson Park, Chicago.
Each photograph was taken at high contrast and "thresholded"
to convert it to a single, laser-cuttable shadow.
While this lamp concept at first felt clichéd, the project proved
gratifying. It drew me and my young son into nature weekly throughout
more than a year, in search of legible images of each season.
In particular, the image for fall eluded me in the first pass.
I waited another year to capture a scene whose withered foliage
offered a clear contrast to the first flush of spring.
