Ripples juxtaposes images of ripples on water with
solutions to the mathematical equations for waves (ripples, perhaps)
on a drum. The intent is to place ephemeral realities from the
physical world alongside the universal laws that govern those
processes (in this case, in modestly simplified form).
The original photographs were taken in the Jackson Park Lagoon, in Chicago.
Many solutions are available to the mathematical equations. I have chosen
ones that evoke the supple, organic curves of art nouveau furniture.
This post on my
personal site describes the process of creating this lamp, and my explorations
of natural and human forms more broadly.
